Selangor state assembly convenes today, focus on tackling Covid-19

SHAH ALAM, Aug 23 — The opening ceremony of the 14th Selangor State Legislative Assembly will convene this morning and is scheduled to sit for nine days.

Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, had consented to grace the opening ceremony, which will be aired live on Media Selangor’s Facebook and SelangorTV Youtube channel.

Yesterday, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the opening ceremony will be held briefly and in strict compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs)

He said apart from the royal address of the Selangor Ruler, the state’s plans in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic is among the topic that will be debated during the sitting.

In a video posted on his Facebook, Amirudin said that the plans include addressing the challenges brought by the pandemic as well as safeguarding the state’s economic resilience.

Those attending the session must be fully vaccinated and have undergone Covid-19 screening on Friday. The state government also provides attendees with a set of saliva-based Covid-19 self-test kits for self-screening purposes at home.
