Air Selangor to up water reserves in RM100 mln plan

SHAH ALAM, Nov 26 — Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) will be upgrading its service by developing phase two of the Labohan Dagang water treatment plant (WTP) and the Sungai Rasau WTP, which is expected to increase 15 per cent of its water reserve margin by 2030.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government had allocated some RM100 million to implement the projects.

He said Air Selangor managed to reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW) level to 28.6 per cent this year from 33.2 per cent in 2017.

“Air Selangor aims to reduce the NRW level to 25 per cent by 2025. To achieve the target, the replacement of main pipes will take place, stretching up to 6,000 kilometres throughout the state, (and) including Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur,” he said during the tabling of the 2022 Selangor Budget (#Selangor2022) at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here, today.

Amirudin added the water quality enhancement project in the state would be implemented to develop physical controlling methods at the basins of Sungai Selangor, Sungai Langat, and Sungai Klang.

“This will result in a reduction of river pollution, especially at the intake point, and minimise water disruption, aside from improving the rivers’ water quality.

“The Selangor government will also adopt the established environmental ‘Polluters Pay Principle’ policy, where the cost of the pollution must be paid for by its perpetrators,” he said.
