Selangor DOSM urges public to not spread false info, pictures of its census staff as scammers, robbers

SHAH ALAM, Sept 22 — The Selangor Department of Statistics (DOSM) has denied its officers are involved in robbery or impersonation cases, that have gone viral on social media recently.

It said the officials, who are carrying out field visits to residences, are instead conducting census activities to prepare for the 2024 Agricultural Census.

“DOSM is currently listing and updating households and businesses information, in the period leading up to the census. This is being carried out by fieldwork officers who have been provided with authorisation cards and the accompanying letters.

“They will move throughout their designated residential areas to obtain the necessary information. However, recent pictures of these officers have been spread, misused and misinterpreted on social media like Facebook and WhatsApp, depicting them as criminals or scammers,” it said in a statement.

DOSM has urged those spreading such pictures and information to stop immediately, as their actions will have a detrimental impact on the work being carried out and could affect government services.

“Once again, we confirm the individuals in the picture are DOSM Selangor personnel who have been appointed to carry out census activities. A police report concerning the matter was lodged on Tuesday (September 20)

“For further information, please contact the Selangor Department of Statistics at 03-55150200. Your cooperation and support is highly appreciated,” it said.
