ATM oversees systematic deployment of SAR assets in landslide op

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 — The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) have mobilised personnel and assets to assist in search and rescue (SAR) operations for the victims of the landslide at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite in Batang Kali, Selangor.

The Defence Ministry, on its official Facebook page today, said that there is a rotation where an officer and 30 personnel from the 25th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (25 RAMD) are mobilised every six hours to the scene to assist in SAR operations.

Meanwhile, the Army’s West Field Command headquarters through its official Facebook page announced that the revolving of personnel and assets had started yesterday, in cooperation with agencies under the Hulu Selangor District disaster management committee such as the Fire and Rescue Department, police and the Malaysian Volunteer Corps Department.

In the tragedy at 2.42am on Friday, a landslide nearly 300 metres long and 70 m high occurred at Father’s Organic Farm campsite in Gohtong Jaya.

As of 9pm today, nine victims are still missing while 24 more have been confirmed dead out of a total of 94 people at the campsite.
