SHAH ALAM, Jan 16 — The Selangor government will be hosting the state-level Chinese New Year celebration on January 28 at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam.

State executive councillor for trade, industry and investment Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said the event, which runs from 3.30pm until 10.30pm, is expected to draw some 8,000 to 10,000 visitors.

Themed “Musim Bunga Kembali ke Khatulistiwa” (Spring Returns to the Equator), Teng said the state government has also provided 2,000 digital ‘ang pow’ (red packet) worth RM10,000 to lucky visitors.

“All they have to do is to download the Wavpay e-wallet app and winners will be selected randomly. Aside from the red packets, visitors would also stand a chance to take home one of 10 electrical items worth RM3,000.

“By having the state-level celebration, hopefully, it could further strengthen the relationship between leaders and Selangor citizens as well as nurture understanding among multiracial and multireligious communities in the state,” he said at a press conference to introduce the programme, here today.

His Royal Highness Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin are expected to attend the celebration.
