Disrespectful: Exco condemns PN MP over disgusting sexist remark

Amar Shah Mohsen

SHAH ALAM, Oct 27 — State executive councillor for women empowerment Anfaal Saari has issued a strong statement condemning a Perikatan Nasional (PN) lawmaker over his sexist remark directed at Seputeh MP Teresa Kok in Parliament yesterday.

Langkawi MP Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah’s action was not only disrespectful and unethical but also showed a lack of manners among some of the elected representatives.

She added such behaviour is unacceptable and goes against the fifth Rukun Negara principle of courtesy and morality (kesopanan dan kesusilaan), which all should uphold.

“I strongly condemn the sexist statement levelled against Kok by PN’s Langkawi MP. By right, an elected representative should possess high ethical values and exhibit a professional demeanour.

“Distasteful statements against women have no place in the political arena or in everyday life,” Anfaal posted on X today.

Yesterday, during the Budget 2024 debate session, Suhaimi invited Kok to visit Langkawi without wearing anything after the DAP lawmaker asked if shorts were allowed on the tourist island.

After several government MPs demanded he retract his statement, Suhaimi replied: “Why are you (Seputeh) asking about shorts? I want to imagine what Seputeh wears when she comes to Langkawi.”

Kok could then be heard accusing Suhaimi of obscenity and impure thoughts.
