SHAH ALAM, Feb 29 — Selangkah Ventures Sdn Bhd (SVSB) has refuted allegations that personal data stored on its SELangkah mobile app have been compromised.
The developer said the breach involving personal data purportedly retrieved from online sources, as per viral claims, does not involve its databases.
“Personal data stored within SELangkah databases have not been compromised and remains secure,” SVSB said in a statement today.
Previously, it was reported that an individual was offering data allegedly belonging to over five million SELangkah users for sale on an online forum.
The seller claimed these data include personal and sensitive information like full names, MyKad numbers, MySejahtera user IDs, email addresses, contact numbers, and medical details related to Covid-19 vaccination.
The individual is seeking US$1,000 (RM4,760) for the data sale, comprising 10,027 files.
The Star quoted a National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa) spokesperson saying they are investigating the authenticity of the data breach claim.
SVSB said the security and privacy of its users’ data remain its utmost priority and assured users that they will continue to implement and maintain best practice measures to ensure data safety.
It also urged those with concerns or inquiries to contact its customer service team via the SELangkah app.
SELangkah was initially launched as a QR-based check-in system for Covid-19 contact tracing during the height of the pandemic, logging about 35 million entries.
It was later expanded into a comprehensive Covid-19 response tool, including features like quarantine monitoring, vaccination, psychosocial support, and appointments.
The platform then evolved to include other functions and state government services like the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax), Selangor Mental Sehat, Selangkah Biz, Selcare Store, and Selangkah Wallet.
