SHAH ALAM, June 14 — The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) hosted a courtesy visit from the Republic of Korea National Red Cross (KNRC) at its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and enhance ongoing support in humanitarian efforts carried out by both groups.
During the visit, both bodies engaged in fruitful discussions on best practices for disaster response, emergency preparation, and community resilience.
“The collaborative dialogue aimed to enhance each organisation’s capacity to address the challenges and needs of vulnerable communities more effectively,” MRC said in a statement yesterday.
The discussions also centred on the importance of youth exchange and the promotion of youth volunteerism as vital components of building resilient communities.
“Such collaboration can lead to more effective disaster response strategies, improved emergency preparedness, and stronger community resilience.
“By working together, both MRC and KNRC can provide comprehensive support and resources, enhancing our overall capacity to respond to crises.”
The KNRC delegation was led by its president, Dr Chul-Soo Kim.
Other key participants included MRC national chairman Temenggong of Kedah Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Sultan Abdul Halim, MRC secretary-general Hakim Hamzah, International and Inter-Korean Cooperation Office director-general Eunyoung Park, and International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) deputy regional director Juja Kim.
As part of the visit, the KNRC delegation toured MRC’s warehouse and facilities, which showcased the latter’s logistics capabilities and resource management for effective disaster response and humanitarian aid delivery.
“The tour facilitated a deeper understanding of operational practices and identified areas for potential collaboration and support.”
