SHAH ALAM, June 27 — The Shah Alam Stadium’s demolition has commenced after the approval permit was issued on June 14, said Mayor Dato’ Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim.
He said a discussion was held on June 20 to finalise the development proposal for the Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA).
“On June 20, the MBSA (Shah Alam City Council), Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI), Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd and consultants discussed the matter at DoubleTree by Hilton near here.
“The session aimed to coordinate technical requirements to finalise the plan before the application was officially submitted to us for approval.
“To date, we have not officially received the development plan, but the demolition permit was issued on June 14 and work has begun,” he said.

Fauzi said the discussion was held following the approval of planning permission on March 22 for the demolition of the stadium.
He said MBI acted immediately by submitting an application to rebuild the stadium, with a capacity of 44,000 to 45,000, in line with the state government’s approval.
However, he said, before the KSSA is built, a proposal to build a flood mitigation pond on a 4ha plot near the sports complex site must be studied.
“Another issue is traffic management and solutions that will impact congestion around (the KSSA). We will study and discuss these two matters later,” he said.

On February 13, Amirudin said the Shah Alam Stadium’s demolition will take about six months using conventional methods without explosives.
Though it will take longer, the method, according to Amirudin, is safer and will not affect residents around the site in Seksyen 13.
Previously, MBI said the KSSA will be built in three phases and is to be completed by 2029.
MBI special projects unit general manager Datuk Ruslan Abdul Aziz said the first phase involves the demolition and rebuilding of the Shah Alam Stadium, which is set for completion by December 2026.
He said the second phase is set to begin in January 2027, involving the construction of a covered theatre, youth and sports wing, and a recreational area.
The last phase is slated to start in January 2028 and end in December 2029, and involves the building of an integrated terminal and hotel.
