Global franchise expo aims 30,000 visitors, RM600 mln in sales

KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 — The 2024 Franchise International Malaysia (FIM2024) exhibition and conference, which will be held from May 29 to June 1, is expected to attract more than 30,000 visitors with a sales target of RM600 million.

The annual exhibition and conference programme organised by the Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (Kuskop) will begin with a conference on May 29, followed by an exhibition from May 30 to June 1, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

MFA chairman Datuk Dr Radzali Hassan said FIM2024 would also feature the Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Franchise Confederation (APFC) and the World Franchise Council (WFC) which will gather representatives of franchise associations from over 40 countries.

“Malaysia is once again the host for this meeting after last hosting it in 2013. To date, delegates from more than 20 countries have confirmed their participation, including Indonesia, South Korea, Philippines, Brazil, Singapore, Taiwan, Mexico, New Zealand, Egypt and Thailand.

“There will also be the Franchise In-Buying Mission (FIBM) which is a business matching programme jointly organised by Matrade. We are targeting investors from 16 countries with over 100 business matching sessions,” he told Bernama.

Radzali said so far, more than 80 per cent of the exhibition booths had been taken up by franchise companies and organisations that also contribute to the franchise ecosystem.

“Various local and international franchise brands will participate in FIM, allowing visitors to meet and discuss with industry players. For some franchise industry players, FIM is the starting point to expand their franchise business,” he said.

He said among the brands that have confirmed participation are QSolve, Bubblebee, CIC Where Leaders Are Born, Laundrybar, Ayam Penyet Best, Cambridge English For Life, Daily Fresh, Marrybrown, Wah Chan and Q-Bistro.

In conjunction with FIM2024, the 26th edition of the Malaysia Franchise Awards (AFM2024) on May 29 will also be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), with 800 guests expected to attend the event.

AFM director Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Hizam Hanafiah said the awards programme was an important platform to give recognition to all local franchise industry players so that they could strive to maintain excellent performance in the local market and s compete better at the global level.

“What’s interesting this time is that nominations for the awards are open to everyone involved in the franchise industry, irrespective of whether they are members of the MFA or not. This is to appreciate the contribution of everyone involved in the development of this industry.

Among the categories that will be contested at AFM2024 are the Franchise System, International Franchisor, Franchisee, Open Category, ESG and Media.
