SHAH ALAM, May 17 — State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi is optimistic about Selangor FC doing well in the upcoming Super League match against Kedah FC tomorrow.

This is despite the absence of the Red Giants’ winger Mohamad Faisal Abdul Halim, who is currently recovering in the hospital from an acid attack by an unknown assailant earlier this month.

Najwan said he is confident that the state’s football team will do their best to ensure a good Super League season this year.

“I am confident that our team will show an energetic performance and hopefully win our first match (against Kedah) in the Super League,” he said.

Najwan was speaking to the press on the side of the Selangor Local Youth Movement’s 2024/2025 members’ appointment ceremony at Dewan Jubli Perak in the State Secretariat Building today.

On Faisal, the councillor reiterated the state’s commitment that the state footballer would receive the best care while Selangor would care for his welfare.

Najwan is also hopeful at being able to see Faisal back on the football field following his recovery.

“We will ensure he gets the best care based on his needs, and we will also look towards ensuring his welfare.

“Hopefully, once he fully recovers, we would like to see him back on the field,’’ he said.

The Red Giants are scheduled for their first Super League Match against Kedah at the MBPJ Stadium in Petaling Jaya tomorrow night.

Najwan said the police have also stepped up their presence for the match to ensure the fans’ and players’ safety.

Previously, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari assured that the state government is ready to assist Faisal in receiving the best treatment to ensure the star player’s fully recovers.

In addition to the state government, Selangor FC board member Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar said that Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah will bear the costs of Faisal’s treatment and medical expenses.

On May 5, the local football arena was shocked when Faisal was attacked with acid by two unknown individuals at a shopping centre in Petaling Jaya.

He was confirmed to have suffered fourth-degree burns on several parts of his body after undergoing surgery, with the attack also limiting his movement and speech.
