HULU SELANGOR, May 8 — Unity Government candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election Pang Sock Tao has pledged to safeguard the Orang Asli community’s welfare by ensuring the comprehensive utilisation of state initiatives for their benefit.
She is also committed to setting up a special fund meant to organise more community gatherings and programmes for the group if elected to office.
“After meeting with the Orang Asli community, I discovered that they do not want lavish development. What they want is the organisation of more community gatherings.
“As such, my priority will be to fight for funds for this purpose,” Pang told the press during a visit to Kampung Orang Asli Buluh Telur yesterday.
The Pakatan Harapan candidate added that she received positive responses from the community throughout the campaigning period, based on her visit to four different Orang Asli villages in the state constituency.
She is hopeful that this will be translated into votes when Kuala Kubu Baharu residents head to the polls.
“They understand the message that the Unity Government is the right choice to ensure their welfare is safeguarded,” Pang said.
The Election Commission has set May 11 as polling day for the by-election.
The seat fell vacant following the demise of its state assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong on March 21, due to cancer.
