Expedite Tanjong Karang hospital development: Avoid HSA tragedy

BY LIZAWATI MADFA
SHAH ALAM, OCT 26: Tanjong Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar is urged to deliver on promises to expedite the construction of a new hospital in Tanjong Karang to ensure that the hospital fire incident in Johor Bahru is not repeated.
Member of the State Council (ADN) Sekinchan Ng Suee Lim said that existing hospitals in Tanjong Karang are in bad shape and facing inadequate supplies.
He said that the hospital, which started operations in 1966, was currently unable to accommodate the density of patients due to the increase in population each year.
“We hope that Noh Omar is aware of the October 25 tragedy in the South, and take it as a lesson to fulfil his promises as soon as possible.
“He proclaims that he is great; what else is he waiting for.
“As long as the promise is not fulfilled, Noh is unworthy to talk about Selangor (state),” he told SelangorKini.

On October 25, 6 patients died in the fire incident at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA), which was built in 1882.
Ng said that Noh often beat around the bushes in regards to the hospital’s development progress.

“Previously it was due to technical problems and the same answer is still being given now.  Are there no other reasonable excuses?
“I just want to remind that if there is a will, there is a way,” Ng said.
On Febuary 18, 2013, three months before the 13th General Election (GE13), Noh announced that two Tanjong Karang hospitals would be build in Terap River, Kuala Selangor over a land area of 16 hectares.
On October 25, Noh, who is also Minister of Housing and Local Government said that the delay in the construction of hospitals costing RM269 million was due to a technical problem between the Public Works Department (JKR) and contractors.
Barisan National (BN) Selangor has said that the government had increased the allocation of RM19 million to build the hospital, which was originally estimated at RM250.
