Greening Selangor a step to preserving nature

BY: HAFIZAN TAIB
KAJANG, OCT 23: A greening programme will be implemented throughout Selangor to preserve the environment and expand the use of green technology.
Selangor Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Consumer Affairs Exco Elizabeth Wong said the programme planned by the state government involved a cost of RM200,000 and is focused on rural areas.
“The programme we conduct here at Chua River Lake is a pioneer and we will move on to other districts in Selangor.
“It emphasises the use of green technology like solar power as well as environment management by the community of a particular area,” she said to the media.
She said this after officiating the Green Earth Carnival.
Also present was Kajang Assemblywoman, Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Wong said that the use of green technology will benefit the public in rural areas, a benefit that many urbanites already enjoy.
“The programme begun here will run for around three months,” she added.
Meanwhile, Dr Wan Azizah said that she is having discussions with the state government to gazette the area as a recreational park.
“We will see how things progress as we continue discussions with the state government.
“This effort is to preserve the area and for the benefit of locals here,” she added.
