Smart road maintenance, report using Waze

BY: LIZAWATI MADFA
SHAH ALAM, OCT 31: Selangor road users can now report the location of potholes using the Waze application, said Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
He said that the reports will be channelled to the proper authorities to be repaired in a maximum of five days.
He said that a middleware system will be developed to collect pothole complaints and to monitor repair time.
“With this, the State Government is capable of implementing its preventive maintenance programme more effectively without disturbing road users,” he said while tabling the 2017 Selangor Budget at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly on October 31.
On September 23, local authorities signed a cooperative pact with Google Asia Pacific through Waze Connected Citizens Programme.
Mohamed Azmin said that the local authorities currently involved are Petaling Jaya City Council, Subang Jaya Municipal Council, Ampang Jaya Municipal Council and Kajang Municipal Council.
“Besides pothole complaints, local authorities are responsible to upload information regarding closed roads for specific purposes so that road users can have access to the information before planning their journey,” he said.
