AG’s report should be tabled, not classified as OSA

BY: NAZLI IBRAHIM
KUALA LUMPUR, NOV 15: The Federal Constitution requires the Auditor General (AG)’s report to be tabled in Dewan Rakyat, thus classifying under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) is unjustified.
Indera Mahkota Member of Parliament Datuk Fauzi Abdul Rahman said that it should not have happened as it restricts the freedom of Members of Parliament to debate on matters raised in the report.
“YB Seputeh said that Pandan was brought to court for revealing OSA secrets, but under the constitution, we are required to table the AG’s report in the Parliament
“So, how can it be classified as OSA, when it should be based on the Constitution,” said Fauzi while interrupting Seputeh MP Teresa Kok in her debate at the Dewan Rakyat on November 14.
Obviously this has caused Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli to be indicted.
Prior to this, Razifi had also been a victim in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, when the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court sentenced him to 18 months’ in prison for violating the OSA.
According to the charge sheet, Rafizi had alleged illegally possessed page 98 of the AG’s report on 1MDB, which violates Section 8(1)(c)(iii) OSA 1972.
Rafizi has also been accused of distributing confidential documents without permission, at the parliament lobby on March 28, and was charged with violation of Section 8(1)(e)(iv) of the same Act.
