KL-Lake Banding Tandem Cycling Expedition for OKU

SHAH ALAM, OCT 3: The 2017 Kuala Lumpur – Banding Lake Tandem Cycling Expedition, ranging over 400 kilometres (km) in total distance, was organised for a special group – People with Different Abilities (OKU).
The programme, organised by the State Government through the Selangor State’s Sports Council (MSN) together with Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB), started from Kuala Lumpur until Banding Lake, Perak, with 46 participants led by Selangor MSN Deputy Director, Najwan Halimi.
It was held for four days from September 19 to 22, flagged off by Youth, Sports, Culture and Entrepreneur Development Exco, Amirudin Shari, at the MAB Training Centre, Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.

Selangor MSN officers and staffs as well as MAB Training Centre students participated in the programme which is a part of State Government’s initiative in support of the OKU particularly youths with low vision.
Participants were in very high team spirit in facing the challenges to complete the mission.
On the first day, participants started cycling from the MAB Training Centre, Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur in the morning and reached Slim River, Perak in the evening, completing 105 km.
The next day, they continued cycling for another 100 km towards Ipoh town, stopping by the MAB Training Centre in Ipoh, and was welcomed with evening tea.
On the third day, the participants resumed cycling from Ipoh to Chenderoh and then towards Gerik, covering 150 km of winding and hilly trail, finishing off in the late evening.
In the afternoon, they had taken a break at Chenderoh where its Assemblyman, Zainun Mat Noor, had served them food.

They then continued cycling in the morning on the final day, from Gerik towards Banding Lake located in the Royal Belum forest, for 50 km, ending the journey around noon.
There were four marshals who accompanied the participants for safety and traffic control besides the Malaysian Civil Defense Department (JPAM) and Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) assisting with an ambulance and a truck to store the bicycles.
