Pitch@Selangor features six state assemblyman as panel judges

PETALING JAYA, Nov 26 — With the participation of 16 startups, the business pitching competition Pitch@Selangor 2019 features six Selangor state assemblyman as its panel judges.

The Selangor Information Technology & E-Commerce Council (SITEC) chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping in his welcoming speech said the competition aims to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and social enterprises in Selangor boost and accelerate their entrepreneurship works and propose their innovative proposals to various stakeholders.

“The participation of six honourable Selangor state assemblyman demonstrates how public and private sector stakeholders can work together to provide enhanced media publicity, better market access and new funding opportunity to startup.

“Visionary leadership will help to drive the growth of an Entrepreneurial Nation (E Nation) that thrives on innovation and creativity,” Yong said at the opening of Pitch@Selangor 2019, held at One World Hotel here today.

Also present were Selangor Local Government, Public Transportation, and New Village Development Committee chairman Ng Sze Han and Entrepreneur Development deputy minister Datuk Dr Mohd Hatta Md Ramli.

The six state representatives participating as the panel judges are Dusan Tua state assemblyman Edry Faizal Eddy Yusof, Bukit Melawati state assemblyman Juwairiya Zulkifli, Dengkil state assemblyman Adhif Syan Abdullah, Bukit Gasing state assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran, Permatang state assemblyman Rozana Zainal Abidin, and Bukit Tunku state assemblyman Lim Yi Wei.

Yong said the event would also be able to identify potential innovative products and solutions from entrepreneurs and startups that could be piloted or adopted by the state government as well as the private sector.

He said impactful startup and inspiring entrepreneurship can be driven from a sustainable ecosystem offering capacity-building initiative in growing talent.

“A vibrant entrepreneurship and startup community will be a crucial element that contributes towards Selangor State’s Agenda of achieving the Smart State Status by 2025,” he said.

A total of 16 startups were shortlisted for Pitch@Selangor, competing under the two SMEs and social enterprise categories.

The contestants were selected based on current tractions and impact towards solving problems and how it would contribute to society.

An extension of SITEC’s Selangor Accelerator Programme (SAP) 2019, Pitch@Selangor was organised by SITEC, partnering with Mystartr.com, a reward and equity crowdfunding company licensed by the securities commission.
