SHAH ALAM, Nov 5 — The unemployment rate in Selangor has dropped in the last three years, the state legislative assembly was told today.

State youth, sports development and human resource development committee chairman Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the unemployment rate was at 3.2 per cent in 2016 and has now dropped to 2.8 per cent in 2017 and 2018.

“The state government has set the target to reduce the unemployment rate to 2.5 per cent in Selangor this year,” he said at the state assembly, today.

Mohd Khairuddin said the state administration will focus on organising job fairs at a larger scale at the state level and have smaller events held in state districts.

Apart from organising job fairs, the state government would take several other initiatives to improve the development of youth economy, such as conducting courses and training under the human capital development committee, vocational training and career enhancement training programmes.
