130 new Covid-19 cases, death toll rise to 26

SHAH ALAM, March 27 — Three Covid-19 fatalities were reported in Malaysia, bringing the total death toll in the country to 26 so far.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said as of noon today, 130 new cases have been reported, bringing the total number of positive cases in Malaysia to 2,161.

He said 44 patients have recovered and been discharged today, raising the number of fully recovered cases to 259.

“A total of 54 positive Covid-19 cases are still being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 34 of them require respiratory aid,” he told a press briefing on Covid-19 in Putrajaya today.

Dr Noor Hisham said the three reported deaths are as follow:

  • Case 1,056: A 35-year-old male Malaysian citizen. The deceased had a travel history to Indonesia and had received treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital on March 18. He was pronounced dead on March 26 at 9.30 pm.
  • Case 2,032: An 83-year-old male Malaysian citizen, who had a history of chronic illness. He received treatment at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, in Ipoh, Perak, on March 25. He was pronounced dead on March 26 at 6.55 pm.
  • Case 1,321: A 53-year-old male Malaysian citizen who had close contact with a positive Covid-19 case (1,309). He received treatment at the Sungai Buloh Hospital on March 22 and was pronounced dead on March 27, at 10.30 am.
