140 new Covid-19 cases, death toll up to 43

KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 — Six Covid-19 fatalities were reported in Malaysia as of noon today, bringing the death toll in the country to 43 so far.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 140 new cases were reported, which brings the total number of positive cases in Malaysia to 2,766.

At a press briefing on Covid-19 today, Dr Noor Hisham said 58 patients have recovered and been discharged as of today, raising the number of fully recovered cases to 537.

“A total of 94 positive Covid-19 cases are still being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 60 of them require respiratory aid,” he told the media at the Health Ministry in Putrajaya today.

Dr Noor Hisham said the reported six deaths are as follow:

  • Case 2,269: A 48-year-old Malaysian woman with a history of high blood pressure. She was treated at the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital in Negeri Sembilan and was pronounced dead at 4.04 am yesterday.
  • Case 2,626: A 69-year-old Malaysian man with a history of diabetes and high blood pressure. He had a travel history to Saudi Arabia. He was pronounced dead on March 27 at his residence and his body was brought to Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
  • Case 2,627: A 69-year-old Malaysian man with a history of diabetes and high blood pressure. He was treated at Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Johor and was pronounced dead on March 26.
  • Case 1,275: A 40-year-old Indonesian man. He was treated at Sarawak General Hospital on March 20. He was pronounced dead today at 1.38pm.
  • Case 2,628: A 81-year-old Malaysian man with a history of a heart attack. He was treated at University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) in Petaling Jaya on March 27. He was pronounced dead today at 7.09am.
  • Case 2,629: A 73-year-old Malaysian man with a history of diabetes and heart attack. He was treated at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang on March 29. He was pronounced dead at 4.30am yesterday.
