Covid-19: 35 new cases add Singapore’s tally to 879; 228 recovered

SINGAPORE, March 31 — Singapore’s Health Ministry (MOH) yesterday has verified an additional 35 cases of Covid-19 infection, with another two Malaysians involved, bringing the tally for the republic to 879.

In a statement here, MOH said one of the Malaysians is from the public healthcare sector and is currently placed under domestic unlinked category.

Labelled as case 853, the 20-year-old male Malaysian who is a Singapore Work Pass holder had been in Malaysia for two days from March 16.

He reported onset of symptoms on March 28, and subsequent test results confirmed Covid-19 infection this afternoon, said the ministry.

The porter at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) is currently warded in an isolation room at the centre, and had not gone to work after the onset of symptoms, it said.

The other is an imported case involving a 41-year old Malaysian man who is also a Singapore Work Pass holder and currently warded at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

Of the 35 new positive cases, MOH said nine are imported and 26 are local cases with no recent travel history abroad,

The nine imported cases have travel history to Europe, North America, South America, the Middle East and Asean countries, it said.

Singapore has also yesterday identified three new clusters namely S11 Dormitory @ Punggol at Seletar North Link; Wilby Residences at Wilby Road; and Hero’s at Circular Road.

MOH said yesterday, 16 more cases of Covid-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, adding the total of fully recovered to 228.

Of the 420 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, most are stable or improving while 19 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

As at noon, MOH has identified 12,984 close contacts who have been quarantined.
