Malaysia Covid-19 death toll now at 11

SUBANG JAYA, March 20 — The Health Ministry has reported the 11th Covid-19 related death today.

In a Facebook post, its director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the patient, case number 1070, had passed away at 9.05 pm, yesterday.

“The National Crisis Preparedness and Response Center (CPRC) had today received a report of another (1) Covid-19 death (case 1070), which brings the total number of deaths to 11.

“Case 1070 was a 70-year-old Malaysian citizen with a history of chronic health condition. The patient had a travel history to Indonesia in February and was also the chairman of the surau in his local area,” he said in the statement.

Dr Noor Hisham said the deceased had shown symptoms a week before being admitted to the Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM (formerly known as HUKM) on March 18 and was tested positive the following day.

He said the deceased was given respiratory assistance and was then admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

“However, the patient’s health had deteriorated day by day and he was declared dead on March 22, 2020, at 9.05 pm. Condolences to the family of the deceased,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

As of noon yesterday, 123 new cases were reported, bringing the total number of positive cases in Malaysia to 1,306.

A total of 25 patients had recovered and been discharged yesterday, raising the number of fully recovered cases to 139 so far.
