Malaysia records 212 new positive cases, death toll now at 14

SUBANG JAYA, March 22 — Four Covid-19 fatalities were reported today, bringing the death toll in Malaysia so far to 14.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said as of noon today, 212 new cases had been reported, bringing the total number of positive cases in Malaysia to 1,518.

He said based on preliminary investigations, 123 of the 212 new cases were linked to the tabligh assembly cluster at Masjid Jamek Sri Petaling.

He said 20 patients had recovered and been discharged today, raising the number of fully recovered cases to 159 so far.

“A total of 57 positive Covid-19 cases are still being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 27 of them require respiratory aid,” he told a press briefing on Covid-19.

Dr Noor Hisham said the latest four deaths had involved the following cases:

  • Case 1070: The deceased had travel history abroad and had received treatment at the ICU of the Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM. The patient died on March 22.
  • Case 1114: A 70-year-old Malaysia male citizen, who from the tabligh cluster and had received treatment in Kluang hospital. The patient died on March 23.
  • Case 1006: A 49-year-old Malaysian male citizen who was treated at the Sarawak General Hospital and is the son of Case 1031. The patient died on March 23.
  • Case 595: A 51-year-old Malaysian female citizen who was a close contact to a positive Covid-19 case from the tabligh cluster and received treatment in Miri Hospital. The patient died on March 23.
