Selangor to provide Covid-19 screening tents, control foreign entry

By Ida Nadirah Ibrahim

SHAH ALAM, March 19 — The Selangor National Security Council has agreed to help the state Health Department by providing additional Covid-19 screening tents at several health centres.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, who is also chairman of the council, had also advised the public to reduce hospital visits during the two-week period of the movement control order, which was enforced yesterday until March 31.

“The council had decided to tighten the operations at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang and the ferry terminal in Port Klang to control the entry of foreigners.

“The police will also enforce strict action on those who breach the movement control order,” said Amirudin in a statement today.

Amirudin said the Selangor government is also in the final stage in completing the stimulus package for the state, which will take into account the welfare of those who are affected by the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The Selangor stimulus package is expected to be announced tomorrow morning.

Earlier today, Amirudin had chaired the state Covid-19 Movement Control Meeting, which was held to discuss measures to flatten the curve of the coronavirus pandemic.

The meeting had touched on the latest update of the Covid-19 outbreak, supplies of food and other essentials, as well as briefing on security.

“The council will be meeting more frequently from today onwards.

“On behalf of the state government, I would like to thank the Federal government for allowing the Menteri Besar to chair this meeting.

“I believe the professionalism shown will ensure the coordination and management of the movement control order as well as joint efforts in coordinating effective measures in containing the virus,” the statement read.
