5,000 to benefit from deferment of Selangor study loan repayment

By Nadiah Zamlus

SHAH ALAM, April 14 — The six-month deferral of the payment for the Selangor State Scholarship Fund (TKWBNS), from April to September, will benefit some 5,000 borrowers, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor Menteri Besar said the initiative announced in the second phase of the Selangor economic stimulus package, Selangor Care Package 2.0, will help the students in facing difficult times during the movement order control (MCO) period.

“I hope the money saved during the deferment period would lessen the burden of the 5,000 families involved,” he said on a Facebook post today.

The state government offers seven education loans — the Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor Scholarship, Peduli Siswa (local variable study load), the variable study loan for those studying abroad, Selangor Brain Bank Special Programme, Selangor Public Service Special Programme, Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Selangor Scholarship, and Sagong Tasi Scholarship.

On April 1, the Selangor government had announced the second state stimulus package, which had allocated RM272.5 million to cushion the economic impact from Covid-19.

The announcement was made after the first RM127.8 million stimulus package, Selangor Cares Package, was revealed on March 20.

The Selangor administration has allocated a total of RM400 million to help the people and the economy in the state.
