Aberdeen patrol system boosts enforcement of MCO

PETALING JAYA, April 16 — The implementation of the third phase of the movement control order (MCO) in Selangor is enhanced by the implementation of the (MPV) police patrol car ‘Aberdeen’ patrol system.

Selangor deputy police chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said Petaling Jaya was the first district to implement the system to monitor movements in specific locations such as residential areas, commercial premises, supermarkets and public markets more efficiently.

“One vehicle consists of four members including a personnel from the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM). Three will disembark and patrol a residential or commercial area on foot for an hour before moving to another area.

“The Aberdeen Sistem will be reviewed for its effectiveness in this area (Petaling Jaya) from time to time and will be improved before being implemented in other districts,” he said when met after launching the Aberdeen patrol system at the Damansara Police Station here today.

Also present was the Petaling Jaya District Police Chief ACP Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal.

In another development, Arjunaidi said 2,255 individuals who disobeyed the MCO had been detained throughout Selangor from March 18 until yesterday.

“Yesterday alone, during the first 24 hours of the third phase of the MCO, 316 offenders were arrested for various offenses under the MCO.

“Entering the third phase, the implementation of the patrol system also signals that the police are very serious and will not compromise on this matter,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nik Ezanee said eight teams were tasked with implementing the Aberdeen system by focusing on 12 locations in the north and 14 in the south.

Nik Ezanee also revealed that the MCO’s compliance rate had dropped by five per cent this week.

“The percentage of compliance rates was about 90 per cent, previously, down to 85 per cent. We are also seeing an erratic compliance, maybe because some people are tired of sitting at home, ”he said.
