Hadi Awang appointed PM’s special envoy to Middle East

KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 — PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has been appointed Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to the Middle East with ministerial rank.

The Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement yesterday that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had agreed to the appointment of the Marang MP.

“Abdul Hadi Awang is a former vice-president of the International Union for Muslim Scholars.

“He was listed among the 500 most influential Muslims in the world in the category of Preachers and Spiritual Guides by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies based in Jordan in 2016,” said the statement.

Abdul Hadi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Syariah from Islamic University of Madinah and a Master’s degree in Political Science from Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt.

He served as Menteri Besar of Terengganu from 1999 to 2004.
