Recoveries exceed daily Covid-19 cases four days in a row

SHAH ALAM, April 16 — The registered number of Covid-19 recoveries today remain higher then new cases reported making it the fourth consecutive day.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said as of noon today, 119 patients have fully recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,766 or 53.4 per cent of the total cases.

He said the country registered 110 new positive Covid-19 cases, bringing the accumulated cases to 5,182.

“A total of 56 patients are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 29 of them require respiratory aid,” he said during the press conference on Covid-19 at the Health Ministry (MOH) in Putrajaya today.

Dr Noor Hisham said one fatality was reported, bringing the death toll to 84, which translated to 1.62 per cent fatality rate.

“The death involved Case 4,711 who was a 66-year-old Malaysian man with a history of high blood pressure and heart disease,” he said.

The victim was treated in Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) on April 9. He was declared dead yesterday at 12.55am.
