Report: Dewan Rakyat will sit for one day on May 18

SHAH ALAM, April 18 — The Dewan Rakyat will sit for one day only on May 18, MalaysiaKini reported today.

According to the report, a notice was issued yesterday to MPs via email by Dewan Rakyat secretary Riduan Rahmat.

“Following the implementation of the movement control order, the Dewan Rakyat would convene to discuss government Bills and business only.

“Therefore, there will be no oral question sessions, written questions, motions, and special chambers,” the English portal quoted Riduan to have said in the emailed notice.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof had confirmed with MalaysiaKini that the notice is authentic and several MPs had also verified to have received the email.

On Wednesday, Mohamad Ariff reportedly said that the Parliament would proceed amid the Covid-19 outbreak but it will be conducted under the social distancing measures with advice from the Health Ministry.

The third session of Dewan Rakyat was initially scheduled to sit for 15 days from May 18 to June 23.

The Parliament was supposed to have reconvened on March 9 but was postponed when Perikatan Nasional took over the administration.
