Selangor suspects river pollution sabotage, to lodge police report

By Nadiah Zamlus

SHAH ALAM, Nov 10 — Selangor government plans to lodge a police report on the suspected act of sabotage in the Sungai Selangor odour pollution incident today.

State executive councillor for environment Hee Loy Sian said the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) took three readings between 2am and 7am which showed pollution level of zero threshold odour number (TON).

“Therefore, we suspected it (the pollution) to have happened between 7am to 10am. We believe it is an act of sabotage and will lodge a police report,” said Hee at the Selangor Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

Hee said this in his answer to an additional question by Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Elizabeth Wong during the winding-up session of the 2021 Selangor Budget.

Following the pollution incident, the Rantau Panjang and the Sungai Selangor Phase 1, 2, and 3, Water Treatment Plants (WTP) were forced to shut down at noon today.

The closure had caused over 1.1 million account users in 1,279 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat to face unscheduled water cuts beginning 6pm today.

Earlier, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) said 992 million litres per day (MLD) of water was released into Sungai Selangor to dilute the containment in the raw water source.
