Seremban prison, quarters under EMCO from Nov 24 to Dec 7 — Ismail Sabri

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 — The Seremban Prison and its quarters are the latest areas to be placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) for 14 days from tomorrow (November 24) until December 7, said Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the EMCO would be implemented throughout the prison area, including the prison block, administrative building as well as the staff quarters, involving 2,081 people.

“The Ministry of Health (MOH) has carried out 246 targeted screening tests and 25 positive cases were recorded from this prison.

“As such, the decision was made based upon the risk assessment and advice of the MOH,” he said at the daily media conference on conditional MCO (CMCO) and recovery MCO (RMCO) here today.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri the EMCO enforced in Kampung Sabah Baru, Lahad Datu, Sabah, and Putra Point Nilai have been extended to December 7 and November 30 respectively; while the CMCO in Kuching Sarawak has been extended to November 27.

He said the CMCO in Kuching, which began on November 9 and supposed to end yesterday, had been extended as there were still 58 active cases involving several clusters in the district out of the 1,055 cumulative positive Covid-19 cases detected so far.

The EMCO in Kampung Sabah Baru, enforced from November 10 until tomorrow, has been extended after 200 positive cases were identified from the 1,914 screenings conducted until November 15.

The EMCO in Putra Point Nilai, which started on October 28 and supposed to end tomorrow, has been extended after 314 positive cases were recorded from the 436 screenings conducted at the locality thus far.

The second screening test was conducted today and the extension of that period is to wait for all the results of the second screening sample to be obtained, he said.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said that the special meeting today agreed to lift the EMCO in Taman Mesra, Sandakan and Plaza Hentian Kajang tomorrow (November 24), while that in Medan 88, Salak Tinggi, Sepang would be lifted as scheduled on November 25.

In Taman Mesra, Sandakan, he said the MOH had, thus far, carried out 1,171 screenings and 174 cumulative positive cases were recorded. However, the MOH confirmed that only 43 active cases were recorded in the locality within the 14-day period between November 8 and November 21.

Meanwhile, in Plaza Hentian Kajang, the MOH screened 5,752 individuals and a total of 462 cumulative positive cases were recorded as of November 22.

In Medan 88, Salak Tinggi, Ismail Sabri said the MOH found the Covid-19 situation in the locality had shown a downward trend as well as being under control, with the MOH having screened 619 individuals and 56 positive cases recorded at the locality.

However, he said all residents in the three localities would still have to comply with the SOP for the CMCO that has been enforced throughout Sabah and Selangor.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said a total of 28 Top Glove factories in Klang, Selangor would be closed in stages to allow the employees to undergo screening and quarantine.

He said the implementation of the directive would be coordinated by the Selangor Security Council Committee, with cooperation from the company management.

“The MOH announced a drastic rise in Covid-19 positive cases among the workforce. As of November 23, the MOH has screened 5,794 individuals and a total of 1,889 positive cases were recorded. Hence, the decision is made based upon the risk assessment and advice of the MOH,” he said.

The government had previously announced the enforcement of the EMCO at the workers’ dormitory, involving men and women hostels, from November 17.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said police also detained 807 individuals for violating the standard operating procedure (SOP) for the RMCO yesterday, with 747 compounded, 52 remanded and eight released on bail.
