Chinese New Year SOP to be announced soon — Ismail Sabri

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 2 — The standard operating procedures (SOP) for the Chinese New Year celebrations during the implementation of the movement control order (MCO) 2.0 will be announced soon, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the SOP is being drafted and will be announced after further discussions are held between the Ministry of Health (MOH) and National Unity Ministry.

“The two ministries will be discussing the SOP for Chinese New Year which falls on February 12 this year and it will be ready soon,” he told a press conference at Wisma Pertahanan here today.

Earlier, he announced that the MCO 2.0, scheduled to end on February 4 in all states except for Sarawak, has been extended to February 18.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said during the special meeting today, the MKN had tabled the government’s strategies in facing the Covid-19 pandemic, including the management of the economic sector in the MCO 2.0 phase.

Ismail Sabri said the 10 strategies are legal action through the Emergency Ordinance; strengthening enforcement; employee accommodation management (Employee Accommodation Task Force); workplace SOP compliance (aggressive monitoring) and comprehensive compliance monitoring (Flying Squads).

Implementing screening programmes aggressively; ABC-19 Squad (Covid-19 Eradicating Agent) involving community volunteer roles; temporary placement of the public sector (empowering pandemic management core agencies); national Covid-19 immunisation programme and use of technology.

He said the MOH also presented a Strategic Plan to address the Covid-19 pandemic for the MCO 2.0 phase.

“There are five strategies that have been outlined, namely breaking the transmission chain, reducing morbidity and mortality, strengthening diagnostics and surveillance, achieving herd immunity, raising awareness and promoting new normal,” he said.
