MB: Federal govt welcomes Selangor’s intention to purchase vaccine

SERDANG, Feb 2 — The Federal government receives Selangor’s wish to purchase the Covid-19 vaccine to speed up herd immunity.

However, the Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the immunisation plan must follow the schedule to avoid overlapping with the national Covid-19 vaccination effort.

“I have just finished a meeting with the Minister of International Trade and Industry as well as the Health Minister and they have responded well to Selangor’s initiative, however we must follow the schedule to avoid getting ahead of the Federal government,” Amirudin said during his visit to the site of the frontliners’ childcare centre here, yesterday.

He said four vaccine choices approved by the Health Ministry will be considered.

Further elaborating, Amirudin said the distribution plan will be discussed with the state executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud and the Selangor Covid-19 Prevention team.

The state government had planned to purchase between three and five million doses of vaccine to curb the spread of Covid-19 and fulfil the needs of the people including foreign workers.
