Selangor MB conveys condolences to family of Datuk Jamali Shadat 

SHAH ALAM, Feb 3 — Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari conveyed his condolences on the passing of legendary comedian Datuk Jamali Shadat, on his Facebook page today.

“Received the sad news that Datuk Jamali Shadat passed away this morning. He was a true Selangorian who was born in Bukit Kapar, Klang. His name is synonymous with the stand-up comedy art scene of the country.

“The story of ‘Atan dan Atuk’ was an endearing piece that left quite a profound impact in the hearts of a majority of Malaysian people. May Allah SWT grant him blessings and place him amongst the believers in heaven.

“My deepest condolences for the family. The country has lost an exemplary artist who is truly talented,” said Amirudin in a statement on Facebook.

Jamali, 78, left behind eight children and 39 grandchildren.

During his heyday in the 1980s, the legendary comedian was well-known for his talent in playing the character of a child named ‘Atan’ along with his ‘Atuk’ and friends of diverse races.
