SHAH ALAM, March 19 — The Selangor State Executive Council has approved an allocation of at least RM100 million for the purchase of the Covid-19 vaccine for the state, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said as planned, Selangor is expected to obtain the Covid-19 vaccine in late May or early June which will directly help speed up the vaccination programme in the country.
“We have finalised the (type of the) vaccine but have to wait for us to receive it first (only then it will be announced). It is among the five vaccines that have been identified by the Ministry of Health (MOH).
“Of course we will wait for the approval of the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) for the vaccine to be allowed for use,” he told reporters after receiving the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at the Shah Alam Hospital yesterday.
Amirudin was among the first 42 individuals in Selangor, including frontliners, to receive the second dose of the vaccine.
On the first phase of the Covid-19 vaccine vaccination programme in the state, he said that thus far 45,000 people had been vaccinated, from the list of 66,000 recipients.
“I believe that with the speed that we currently have, we can complete the first phase of this vaccination exercise by April,” he said.
