SHAH ALAM, Aug 9 — The Selangor government will develop solutions for stateless and undocumented persons in the state to get their vaccination shots, says Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the matter had been discussed with the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) Coordinating Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin, and that the state administration will reveal measures to resolve the issue soon.
“Among the steps that can be taken include using a temporary identification under the SELangkah mobile application or some other mechanism which will be identified soon,” he said in a video posted on his Facebook today.
Amirudin said the issue was raised after he recently received a complaint from a stateless person on the difficulties registering for the vaccination slot as they do not have birth certificates and identification cards.
“The person was born in Malaysia, from a Malaysian father and a foreign mother. However, due to certain circumstances, the parents failed to register the birth. The person is from another state but currently working and living in Selangor.
“I believe there are more issues involving stateless persons or foreigners who are not able to present proper documents, such as renewed working visas due to the movement control order (MCO),” he added.
