Selvax helps reduce burden on healthcare system

SHAH ALAM, Aug 21 — The state government efforts to tackle Covid-19 including implementing the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax) has helped in reducing the burden on the national healthcare system.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the 2.5 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine allocated under Selvax, has helped increase the vaccination rate, with currently 98 per cent of the adult population in the state have received their first dose, while 57 per cent have been administered with two doses.

According to him, when more people are vaccinated, fewer patients are admitted to the hospital and there is a lesser number of deaths that had previously caused the pile-up of corpses at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital’s mortuary in Klang.

“Alhamdulillah (praise be to God), the numbers and signs are getting better, if all goes well, by September we (Selangor) can enter Phase Two (of the National Recovery Plan),” he said on the Tiga Talk online talk show last night.

The programme was broadcast live on Facebook and hosted by three well-known presenters Halim Othman, Linda Onn and Kudsia Kahar.

In June, the Selangor government had launched the Selvax Industry and Selvax Selvax Community initiatives as an approach to complete and expedite the vaccination process for its people.

A total of 500,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine were allocated through Selvax Community to benefit 250,000 people in the state.

Meanwhile, a total of two million doses of vaccine were given to workers, including foreigners, to control the spread of the pandemic in the workplace through Selvax Industry.

The effort involving a financial cost of RM200 million has been recognised by the Federal government and included in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK).
