Budget 2022: RM115 mln for unlimited bus and rail travel pass in Klang Valley

By Nasuha Badrul Huzaini

SHAH ALAM, Oct 29 — Public transport commuters in the Klang Valley will get more benefits under Budget 2022.

Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said RM115 million will be allocated for unlimited bus and rail travel pass.

“Furthermore, RM80 million will be allocated to operators of the Stage Bus Temporary Assistance Fund (Dana Bantuan Sementara Bas Henti-Henti),” he said when tabling Budget 2022 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Along with the development, Tengku Zafrul said the federal government will continue to provide subsidies to partially cover the operating costs of less economical train services in the eastern region.

“The Train to Dabong train service, which went viral recently, has drawn my attention. Dabong in Kuala Krai, Kelantan is indeed a focus area for ecotourism activities and train ticket fares to get there are also affordable.

“KTMB train services are always full on weekends. Meanwhile on weekdays, the train service is frequented by schoolchildren. Currently, they enjoy the benefits of  the MyRail5 pass worth RM5 a month for unlimited trips.

“The MyRail5 pass initiative for the benefit of schoolchildren also will be continued,” he said.
