SHAH ALAM, Dec 13 — The 2021 Selangor Book Fair, which ended yesterday, had recorded an increase in book sales despite the stringent Covid-19 restrictions in place.

Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) director Datin Paduka Mastura Muhamad said according to feedback received by the exhibitors, the rise in sales is higher compared to sales during the previous book fests hosted by the state.

“We had previously recorded up to 500,000 visitors within the 11-day period, but this time around, the figure dropped due to the SOPs (standard operating procedures).

“But what is interesting is that the exhibitors said that the sales recorded had increased up to 50 per cent compared to previous events, and some of them even had to restock,” she said when met at the book fair held at the Shah Alam Convention Centre here, yesterday.

The fair began on December 2 for 11 days until December 12. Visitors can browse for books from 10am till 9pm every day and get an extra hour on Fridays and Saturdays, where closing time was 10pm.

Some 200,000 local and foreign titles were offered at great discounts at 152 booths. Other attractions include lucky draws with RM500 in cash prizes to be won each day.
