Covid-19: Slight rise in cases to 2,897 on Tuesday

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 — The number of Covid-19 cases increased slightly with 2,897 from 2,757 yesterday, bringing the cumulative figure to 2,746,833.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that out of the new cases, 50 per cent were in categories 3, 4 and 5 while the rest were in categories 1 and 2, having slight or no symptoms.

“The daily figure involves 2,705 local and 192 imported cases, with 302 of the cases being treated at the intensive care units including 169 needing respiratory support,” he said in a statement on the latest Covid-19 developments in the country today.

On the cases that have recovered, 3,434 have been recorded, bringing the cumulative number to 2,673,084.

Meanwhile, four new clusters have been detected, bringing the number of active clusters to 226 while the infectivity rate (Rt) in the country was at 0.93 up to yesterday.

Dr Noor Hisham also said that 434 Covid-19 cases were detected among the flood victims, including 14 at the flood relief centres (PPS) up to 3 pm today.

However, there are no new clusters reported today among the flood victims at the PPS.

Meanwhile, 78 infectious disease cases were detected among the flood victims involving acute respiratory infection (53 cases); skin disease (17); acute gastroenteritis (four); hand, foot and mouth disease (two) and conjunctivitis (two).
