Selangor govt allocates RM4 mln for 40,000 flood-hit students

GOMBAK, Jan 24 — The Selangor government will allocate a total sum of RM4 million to help schoolgoing children in the state affected by the recent flood.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the initiative would kick off after the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB) programme has concluded.

“We are estimating some RM4 million for the aid, involving 40,000 children hit by the flood,” said Amirudin when met after the distribution of aid by the Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, at Surau Malabar Hidayatul Islam in Selayang, yesterday.

During the event, Amirudin had distributed a total of RM50,000 aid to Sekolah Taman Permata, which had recently caught fire, RM20,000 to Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-anak Yatim Ummi Selangor and food baskets.

He said MBI had previously set aside RM1.7 million through the Back-to-School programme to help students from low-income families.

“The aid was disbursed to 300 students in several selected state constituencies and had completed over a week ago,” he said.
