SHAH ALAM, Feb 24 — State-owned organisation KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) is looking to provide waste management services to 2,000 factories by the end of this year.

Its managing director Ramli Mohd Tahir said he is confident this target can be achieved, after taking over waste management company Sitamas Environmental System Sdn Bhd (Sitamas) which has a wide network of clients.

“The purchase of Sitamas involves assets, personnel, and clients. The company, based in Seksyen 16, Shah Alam, has 1,300 clients including in Johor, and the services to these clients will be continued.

“So by the year’s end, we are confident at being able to expand our services to 2,000 factories, including existing ones, in ensuring Selangor’s cleanliness is maintained in all aspects,” he said during a press conference earlier today.

Ramli added that KDEBWM is at the present only managing the waste generated by 600 factories in and around Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor.

He said the company, which wholly manages the domestic waste in Selangor, is aiming to expand its market into other states within two years.

“For a start, we will run operations in Johor. After that, the service will be extended to other states which are interested, and indirectly open up job opportunities to the public,” he said.

KDEBWM took full control of Sitamas today, after purchasing 100 per cent of the private company’s shares at a cost of RM9 million.
