SHAH ALAM, March 17 — Five Selangor districts are expected to undergo thunderstorms and heavy showers until 8pm, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a warning issued by the agency at 4.45pm, the districts include Sabak Bernam, Klang, Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat.
MetMalaysia also issued similar bad weather warnings for other parts of Malaysia including Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Melaka.
The other localities include several areas in Kedah such as Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar and Pokok Sena; Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta), Kelantan (Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang and Kuala Krai), Terengganu (Besut and Hulu Terengganu), Pahang (Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh, Maran, Kuantan, Bera and Rompin), Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Kuala Pilah, Jempol and Tampin); Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang and Pontian).
In East Malaysia, inclement weather is forecasted to occur in Sarawak (Miri and Limbang and in Sabah (Sipitang, Beaufort and Tambunan).
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
