MetMalaysia: Whole of Selangor to see squally weather this evening

SHAH ALAM, March 6 — All of Selangor is expected to undergo thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds this evening, as the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecasts inclement weather today.

Asides from Selangor, the other states and territories which will experience strong weather include Perlis, Penang, Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory, and Putrajaya Federal Territory.

“Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu) will see thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds, as will Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim),” it said in a statement issued at 3pm.

Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Temerloh, Maran and Kuantan) Negeri Sembilan (Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau) and Johor (Segamat and Mersing) will also experience strong weather.

“In East Malaysia, Sarawak’s areas include Kuching, Serian, Samarahan and Miri (Miri and Marudi) while in Sabah, its areas include Pantai Barat (Tuaran, Ranau and Kota Belud), Tawau (Tawau, Kunak and Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan) and Kudat (Kota Marudu),” MetMalaysia said.

The strong weather is expected to last until 7pm today.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur in excess of an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
