Strong weather continues as three Selangor districts affected

SHAH ALAM, April 2 — The strong weather earlier predicted for parts of Selangor and the rest of the country continues, as the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecasted heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms for three of the state’s districts.

In a statement issued on Facebook at 12pm today, it said Selangor’s affected districts include Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat.

MetMalaysia said similar weather conditions are also expected in the states of Perlis, Penang and Perak.

Other states and areas which are also affected include Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Kelantan (Kota Bharu, Jeli and Bachok), Terengganu (Kemaman) and Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Kuantan, Bera, Pekan and Rompin).

The inclement weather is also predicted for Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu), Johor (Segamat, Mersing, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru) and Sabah: Tawau (Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan) and Kudat.

“All the aforementioned areas will experience heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms until 4pm today,” said the weather agency.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
