Downpour in two Selangor districts until early morning tomorrow

SHAH ALAM, May 15 — Heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms are anticipated for the district of Hulu Selangor dan Klang later tonight.

Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a statement released at 9.10pm said the inclement weather will last until 1am tomorrow morning.

The agency said other states and locations which are expected to undergo strong weather include Perlis, Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Sik, Baling and Kulim), Penang (Seberang Perai Utara, Seberang Perai Tengah and Seberang Perai Selatan), Perak (Hulu Perak), Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang and Pasir Puteh), Pahang (Raub dan Bentong) and Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu and Seremban).

Similar bad weather is also expected in Sarawak: Kuching (Bau and Kuching), Serian (Serian), Samarahan (Simunjan), Sri Aman (Sri Aman), Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit (Kapit, Bukit Mabong and Belaga), Bintulu and Miri (Beluru), and in Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Tenom, Nabawan, Keningau and Tambunan), Pantai Barat (Ranau), Tawau (Tawau and Lahad Datu) and Sandakan (Tongod, Telupid, Kinabatangan and Beluran).

The agency issues a warning when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm/hour which are expected to occur over the one-hour duration.

Thunderstorm warnings are short-term and are valid within six hours after it was issued.
