SHAH ALAM, May 29 — The Selangor XTIV Martial Arts Championship held at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam here, today, saw an encouraging response.

State executive councillor for youth and sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman said most of the 1,500 participants in the event were excited over the programme.

Those who took part in the event, held from 7.30am to 5pm, include three martial arts associations, namely silat, taekwondo, and silambam.

“This is a momentous day for the state government as we managed to combine three martial arts under one programme.

“We aimed to unite the multiracial community through martial arts and expose the sport to the youths so that it would remain relevant,” he said when met after the launch of the programme.

Mohd Khairuddin added that he plans to hold the next series of the same event.

“The response was encouraging as there were also those coming from Melaka and Johor and not only Selangor,” he said.

The championship was organised by the Youth, Sports and Human Capital Development Committee in collaboration with the Selangor National Sports Council and Shah Alam City Council.
