MB: State govt to help resolve issue of Fed flood aid to victims

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, May 12 — The state government will help to resolve the issue of distributing the RM2,500 Purchase of Necessary Goods Aid to flood victims and their families, which they have allegedly yet to receive.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said some victims have reported not yet receiving the aid that is being coordinated by the Prime Minister’s Office’s Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU JPM) event though it has been some time since the floods.

“We received complaints that the aid announced by the Federal government is not yet fully dispersed. There may be certain constraints or communication problems which resulted in the help not arriving.

“I will have to review the process on the Land and District Office (PTD) level to ensure it reaches the people. Thus far I have been informed ICU JPM is working closely with the PTD to expedite the distribution process,” he said following the launching ceremony for the Selangor Mega Job Fair and selangorjobportal.com.my at the University of Selangor main campus earlier today.

Amirudin added the RM1,000 Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB) aid for flood victims has since been fully distributed to 122,000 affected families throughout the state, with an allocation of RM122 million.

“The BSB distribution has been completed as we have given plenty of opportunities to recipients, including those who have been repeatedly called to receive the aid but did not present themselves,” he said.

On December 31 last year, the Federal government announced cash aid of RM2,500 for the heads of each family that was affected by the severe floods from December 17 to December 19 which they can use to purchase necessities.
