SHAH ALAM, May 25 — Thousands of houses within the Sekinchan state constituency were inundated by half a metre of floodwaters following heavy rain between 11am and 2pm today.
Its state assemblyman Ng Suee Lim described it as the most severe flash flood to hit the area as public premises were also affected, including police stations and public halls.
“The floodwaters receded after the Irrigation and Drainage Department opened the sluice gates. However, we will continue to be on standby as it is still drizzling and rain is expected to last until 6pm.
“So far, no residents have been evacuated to the temporary relief centre (PPS) but monitoring is still being done and the PPS is ready to be activated if necessary,” he said when contacted.
Ng, who is also the Selangor State Legislative Assembly Speaker said that several vehicles were also damaged as they could not be moved to higher ground.
“We urge the residents not to panic and save the valuables first. They also need to stay prepared and monitor the water levels for fear of recurring floods.
“All agencies including local authorities, the land and district office, firefighters and other security forces are on standby for any eventuality,” he said.
Heavy rain since morning in the Klang Valley has also caused several roads in the federal capital to be flooded, including Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Duta Mas and Jalan Ampang as well as Jalan Dang Wangi.
